The top priority of the Traffic Department is safety. Properly functioning traffic signals are vital in ensuring the safe and efficient movement of traffic through Cullman. It is the responsibility of the Traffic Department to keep those signals working properly at all times.In addition to overseeing the traffic signal system for the City of Cullman, the City of Cullman Traffic Department also installs, inspects, and maintains all traffic signals throughout Cullman County. There are IMSA (International Municipal Signal Association) certified technicians on staff. Twenty-four hour emergency service is available.


Damaged or Malfunctioning Signals

It is important for the safety of our citizens and visitors that any damaged or malfunctioning traffic signals be reported immediately. To report damaged or non-functioning traffic signals, call 256-739-8410 during regular hours or call Police Dispatch at 256-734-1434 after hours. Non-emergency issues may also be reported by email.


STATE-CONTROLLED INTERSECTIONS: Traffic signals on state-controlled highways within the City of Cullman are controlled by the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT). The City of Cullman performs routine repairs and maintenance to these signals, but the timing of the traffic lights is determined and set by ALDOT. To voice concerns about traffic signal timing at state-controlled intersections, you may contact ALDOT at 256-582-2254.
